Working together to save lives... One Yorkie at a time.
Your help is desperately needed! Won't you please give us a hand with our latest rescued Yorkies? MARCH 2010 UPDATE FROM THE PRESIDENT First of all, I want to express my deepest appreciation to all of you out there who make UYR successful! We could not rescue such sick little ones without your help! I know that when we rescue a very sick Yorkie like: Sandee and now Henry (and so many others) all I have to do is alert our wonderful donors and you always respond with your donations and prayers. For that I remain a very humbled person. Secondly, I want to acknowledge our membership and those individuals who care for these sick little ones day in and day out to ensure that they are getting all the care and love that these little ones desperately need to get well again. Those of you that have beloved Fur-babies know...all the pills, IVs, and surgeries in the world are not going to work if these little innocent beings no longer have the will to live. They have to know that they are important to somebody, even a stranger, if they are going to survive. Our members continue to step up to the plate and open, not only their homes but their hearts to these needy little ones! Thinking of what some of these doggies have gone through prior to ending up in our homes is a very frightening thought! The obvious neglect and abuse that some of these tiny little beings have endured is more than some grown up humans could endure! I cannot imagine what it would be like to be tied to a post covered in ticks and fleas with no water to drink, no food, no shade in the sun, and noone that gives a Hoot! Add to that a kick to the leg or head and narrow escape with cars, predators and everything else that is out there in the dark of night and it is a wonder that any of them keep trying to stay alive. But it is those tiny survivors that we are blessed to have enter our lives that teach us the true meaning of the 'will to live'. For those of you that have had the privilege of fostering or adopting one of these special little souls...I don't have to explain the feeling you receive from being privileged to be part of their lives! UYR and the many pups that would have been a part of his life lost a very special member of our team in December. Patrick Dodgin was one of our Florida members who lost his life way too early but Patrick lives on in our hearts! His loving wife, Amy Smith, who is also a UYR member, has graciously asked that donations be made in Patrick's memory to UYR. UYR has received dozens of donations in Memory of Patrick that will allow us to continue the work that Patrick did with the saving of rescued Yorkies. THANK YOU AMY for your thoughtfulness during this unbelievably sorrowful time. Finally, I want to let everyone know that UYR has developed a 'page' on Facebook. If you currently have a Facebook account, you can find us by typing in United Yorkie Rescue. We would love to have you join us and post some pictures of your pups! It is always so nice to see pictures of Yorkies (and of course other pets) that are very loved and live in the lap of luxury. It helps to renew my faith that our beloved Rescues will end up finding a home where they will be spoiled for the rest of their lives as they all should be.... Anyway...Spring is in the air and I hope all of you have survived another Winter and that soon flowers and trees will be blooming and my 'Forever Ours' Ohio Louie can get back to squirrel hunting with his brother, Toto, and sister, Dottie! Get more information and have fun on our Facebook page. United Yorkie Rescue on Facebook Blessings and love to all of you.... Mary Sullenberger President UYR.
