Working together to save lives... One Yorkie at a time.
Your help is desperately needed! Won't you please give us a hand with our latest rescued Yorkies? This past week UYR was called upon to rescue many dogs from a shelter that we work with on a daily basis. Several UYR members worked very hard to get six Yorkies out of the shelter that would have been put to sleep. This rescue took place over a six day period and resulted in hundreds of miles of driving to get these Yorkies to foster homes in Florida. The six Yorkies rescued are: Monty, Bernie, Gus, Jesse, Carnie, and Wendy. Sadly, they were all in pretty bad shape. Most were covered in ticks and fleas and feces. All of them have been cleaned up, fleas and ticks are now gone and all have been seen by a vet and started on antibiotics and others meds to get them ready for much needed dental procedures and other care that is desperately needed. One sadly is positive for Heartworms and once we have her labwork done to make sure she is a candidate for Heartworm treatment we will start the care needed to get her well and HW free. Another one had a serious laceration that has been taken care of and all of them are just happy to be out of the very overcrowded shelter. I am very proud of how our members rose to the occasion to help these Yorkies in need! Now I am asking you, our donors, to please help us by making donations to help us help these Yorkies and the dozens more that are waiting for a rescue home in UYR. We cannot do this without you!! UYR could not continue to rescue Yorkies in need without the help of our donors. To date we have rescued: 1461 Yorkies and Yorkie mixes. Our vetting costs to date are: $556,517.53!! Donations of any amount are truly needed and appreciated. A $5.00 donations
allows us to purchase Heartworm prevention for a month for a rescue. For $25.00 we can rescue a Yorkie from a shelter that would otherwise be put to sleep. If you need to place your Yorkie or mix in a hurry, please, use this link "Request To Surrender Form" to contact our Foster Coordinator. Please provide your name, location and information about the dog, including age, health and any behavioral issues if possible. Someone from your area will be in contact with you soon thereafter to make arrangements or refer you to another rescue if we do not have members in your area. Dogs In Need!
Meet "HOPE!" Hope is a tiny puppy less than a month old that was rescued by UYR after her owner informed us that this puppy was being rejected by her 'mommy' and was not able to nurse. Hope was born with only one eye which makes her all the more special and precious to us. She is doing very well with being bottle fed and has already gained another 2 ounces. FOREVER OURS - 04/29/2009
We are pleased to announce that Forever Ours yorkies Pablo and Trooper have been adopted by their foster moms. Thank you to their moms, Donna Pruett and Susan Fidler for taking great care of them and making these two guys a permanent part of their families. Total cost of vetting to date for our 8 present Forever Ours Yorkies is: $13,058.38!! We are looking for people who would be interested in being a 'Sponsor' to one or more of our Forever Ours Yorkies! As a sponsor you would become a cherished person in this dog's life. You would receive communications about your sponsored pup and your name would appear in their story on the Forever Ours page. In Lieu Donation - 08/11/2007
We have had many requests for a way to make a donation to UYR in lieu of gifts for family and friends on birthdays and other special occasions. We listened and have designed a special card that we'll send to your loved one. Please, be sure to include to whom and what you're designating the donation.
